On the way to Fuzhou airport, Jayden ran a fever. I immediately administered the fever suppository, praying hard the fever will subside. As we were near the gantry, an alarm sounded. I had no idea there was a temperature scanner but obviously it had picked up Jayden's fever. Anything above 38 degrees sets off the alarm. Immediately the officer sprang into action, ushering me to a row of seats.
She used the old-fashioned thermometer and stuck it under Jayden's armpit. The temperature read 39 degrees. The officials were quite adamant about not letting us up the plane, to our great dismay. We kept arguing that it was nothing serious and the fever would subside with time as Jayden was not used to the weather in China. Finally we had no choice but we submit to the authorities. I called my cousin to tell him about the situation and he said he would come back and pick us. In the meantime, the airport official helped us call the airline office to change our flight to the next available one. We also had to cancel our hotel booking but it could not be done, we simply had to forfeit the money.
