Chief Engineer (Launch of Marine Week)

Joel was somehow selected together with 5 other boys from Scouts to participate in the Launch of the Maritime Week at Vivocity on 6 April 2014. We had no idea what it was really about, just that it involved Joel dressing up in a costume as a chief engineer and that I had to buy new shining shoes for him. I bought them from BATA for almost $60!

Turned out the boys would be involved in the launch of the Maritime Week at Vivocity where the guest of honour was Minister for Transport Mr Lui Tuck Yew. Richard persuaded me to go and I tagged along. When we went to Level 1 where the Maritime event was held, there was an exhibit with information and some activities. There were lots of photographs put up, winning entries for a photography contest organised by MPA (Maritime Port Authority). There were also lots of freebies in the form of postcards, magnetic bookmarks and luggage tags. We took so many, goodness!

There was a buzz of excitement all around. When the event started, there was singing, dancing, drums beating, and finally the VIPs were called on stage. The scouts went up in their smart uniforms to present a key to Mr Lui and participate in the countdown to the launch.

Joel was even featured on Channel NewsAsia for 2 seconds, much to his father's delight.  He was frenetically taking photographs.

Here are some of the pictures we took:
