Struck Down by Lightning

Read in Straits Times (26 Sep 2009) about a former teacher Carolyn Lim, 30, who was struck down by lightning when she was windsurfing at East Coast Park on 10 Sep 2006.

The accident left her bedridden with double vision, a crooked mouth and without the ability to speak clearly.  The love of her family and friends helped her get through the ordeal.  Her boyfriend stood by her and even proposed to her six months after the accident.

Despite the trauma and her disabilities, Carolyn went on to complete her master's degree in education with NIE and write a book about her experience, entitled Making Pink Lemonade.  Now how inspiring is that?

I was immensely inspired and moved when I read this article.  It is about the courage to live when life looks bleak. It is about the determination to move on when life seems to have come to a standstill. It is about the power of love that conquers all things.  Carolyn's father, a TCM practitioner, quit his work to care for her.  Such is the extent of a parent's love!

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails..."
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
