NEW YEAR NEW YOU!

Last night at Toastmasters, I was inspired by Leena's P5 speech New Year New You! She shared 5 Ps on how we could attain our New Year resolutions.

PICTURE - Picture or visualise yourself enjoying the benefits of attaining your resolutions. If your goal is to lose weight, picture yourself looking good, feeling fit and being able to wear nice clothes!

PLAN - Create a plan to break down the resolution into smaller, achievable goals. For example, to lose weight, create a plan to exercise 3 times a week, 30 minutes each time.

PITFALLS - Anticipate and avoid the pitfalls that will set you back and stop you from achieving your goals. For example, know that by sleeping late, you will be prone to eat supper, avoid late nights.

PEOPLE - Share your resolutions with people who care about you, your family and friends. Get their support to encourage you and surround yourself with positive people.

PRIZE - Reward yourself each time you achieve a goal.  Do not opt for rewards that contradict your goals, such as a buffet dinner that will spoil your weight-loss plan.

In his closing address, Nishant asked who would like to know the ONE technique that will help us achieve our resolutions consistently.  He said that with this technique, he has been able to achieve all his goals for the past ten years, including losing 20 kg this year! That is truly awesome. Of course, all of us were all ears and sitting at the edge of our seats eagerly anticipating his sharing. The secret? Read your resolutions EVERYDAY to remind yourself of the goals you have set out to achieve.

That is what he has been doing and how he has been achieving great success in his life. What an inspiration. I shall put the 5Ps and this life-transforming principle into practice next year to achieve my New Year resolutions. I can't wait!
